Young carers service in East Sussex
A young or young adult carer is someone who provides care and/or support to a family member, including siblings, or a friend, who could not manage without their help. This could be due to illness, disability or age, and caring can involve physical and/or emotional support. Find out more about caring here
Our support for young carers in East Sussex
Our Young Carers Service is for all young carers, aged 5 to 17 years, living, attending school or caring for someone in East Sussex. Our service provides support to young carers before they reach crisis point and to help their physical and mental wellbeing.
We provide young carers with support and fun activities to get involved with, including:
- Information and signposting
- Supporting young carers to access services and activities
- Free outings and activities during the school holidays for registered young carers
- Monthly online Young Carers Club for those aged 5 and upwards
- Monthly in person Young Carers Clubs in Eastbourne and in Uckfield, for those aged 8-17 years.
Young carers assessments
Although we do not undertake statutory young carers assessments, these are provided by Imago East Sussex Young Carers, and they provide other services to young carers in East Sussex.
Our support for young adult carers in East Sussex
Our young adult carers service is for all young adult carers (YACs), aged 17 to 25 years, living, attending school, college or caring for someone in East Sussex. Our service provides support to young adult carers before they reach crisis point and to help their physical and mental wellbeing.
We provide young adult carers with support and fun activities to get involved with, including:
- Information and signposting
- Supporting young adult carers to access services and grants
- A private and secure Facebook group to chat with other YACs
- Free photography workshops and activities, such as bowling and burger, Battle Zone laser combat and crazy golf. See our activities happening in What’s on
- A monthly YACs group to meet other carers, enjoy time out and have some fun.
Support for professionals
We can also provide information and training to professionals and practitioners working with children and young people to help identify, refer and support young carers.
