Carer Money Matters
With the cost of living crisis continuing to severely impact carers, we’re delighted that Care for the Carers have secured funding to offer further support to carers around financial inclusion until March 2026, as part of the Carers Trust ‘Carer Money Matters’ project.
A dedicated colleague is now employed as a Carers Community Navigator, Kim Christofi, based with our partners at Sussex Community Development Association (SCDA).
How can our Carers Community Navigator help?
Kim is able to offer short-term telephone guidance, and other services and can also offer 1:1 appointments to support carers who need more in-depth information and guidance over time in the areas below.
Income maximisation:
This is about ensuring carers, and those they are looking after and/or other household members, are aware of financial benefits and grants they may be entitled to. Access support to complete applications for benefits and grants, or budgeting and signposting to debt advice.
Energy efficiency support:
Information and support to improve energy efficiency at home to reduce energy bills and respond to rising energy costs.
Safety and support in the home:
The project aims to raise awareness of the dangers of Carbon Monoxide poisoning and making homes safer, including installing CO monitors and Locking Cooker Valves (shutting off the gas supply to the cooker where there may be someone vulnerable in the household).
We can support you to register with the Priority Services Register (PSR). Households on the PSR access many benefits, including priority re-connection and alternative facilities for cooking and heating if the energy supply is cut-off.
