Unpaid carers give so much to those they look after, and it can be incredibly challenging for them to find the opportunity to be kind to themselves and take even a short break from caring.

Through our partners A Touch of Gentleness CIC, a growing community of people whose mission is to bring more connection, joy and peace back to the heart of society, and The Isabel Blackman Centre, an over 50s leisure and wellbeing centre in Hastings Old Town, Care for the Carers aims to provide carers with the time and space for a relaxing and rejuvenating break.

On the 1st and 4th Wednesday afternoons of each month carers can book a free, therapeutic hand massage with a trained volunteer who will listen with gentleness. As carers enjoy their massage they tell us that their feelings of connection and wellbeing improve, and that their stress and anxiety dissolves. Afterwards they are treated to tea/coffee and cake from the Isabel Blackman Centre’s fabulous café.

“Oh my goodness me! That was so relaxing and I feel silky smooth now…I’ll definitely be back.”

“The massage was divine. Thank you so much for letting me offload my troubles for a while. So nice to have someone take care of me for a change!”
