Carers groups

During the coronavirus pandemic, we are running virtual carer groups and all carers are welcome. If you are interested in joining a group to help during this difficult time, please contact us.

Care for the Carers runs a range of different carers groups. There is no need book a place at any of the groups, carers can just turn up. If you are a Young Adult Carer, please contact us for more information about our Young Adult Carers group.

For information about when and where our groups meet, you can view our What’s On section or download our Groups Directory

Carers Information and Advice Groups

These groups are for all carers, facilitated by Carer Support Workers, and take place across East Sussex. The first half of the meeting gives time to meet with other carers, and the second half usually has a guest speaker who brings useful information and advice relevant to carers. We hold one evening group for carers who can’t make it to our day groups.

Carers Wellbeing Groups

These groups are regular informal drop-in groups for all carers, with input at some groups from carer support workers, in several locations across East Sussex. These are usually the ‘next step’ groups for carers after they have been attending Information and Advice Groups for 12 months.

Mental Health Carers Support Groups

These groups are regular meetings for carers of people with mental health issues, facilitated by carer support workers.

Making Memories Dementia Groups

Our dementia groups are held in Bexhill, Hailsham and Seaford. Unpaid carers who care for people with dementia are invited alongside the person they care for, or on their own, to attend entertaining support and activity groups.

Young Adult Carers Groups

Our Young Adult Carers (YACs) Groups are monthly evening groups for carers aged 17-25 years, run by carer support workers. To find out the date of the next group, and to request an invite to the private YAC Facebook group, contact us. Find out more about the group.

If you are under 16 or looking for support for young carers, please contact East Sussex Young Carers/IMAGO, which supports Young Carers aged 5-18 who are responsible for caring for a family member with a long term illness or disability. Telephone: 0300 111 1110 or email: info@eastsussexyoungcarers.org.uk

Advice for asylum seekers, refugees and new migrant communities

You can also chat about carers issues with one of our Carer Support Workers every second Wednesday of each month at 10.30am – 1pm, at the meetings of the LINKS Project, a support and advice project for asylum seekers, refugees and new migrant communities (BAME) living in East Sussex.

LINKS Project runs a drop in every second Wednesday of each month from 10.30am – 4pm at Concordia Hall, Church Road, St Leonard’s.

For more information about carers groups run by Care for the Carers and our partners, please contact our Carers Hub.
