Young carers service in East Sussex

Our support for young carers in East Sussex.

Our young carers service is for all young carers living, attending school or caring for someone in East Sussex. This service will provide support to young carers before they reach crisis point and help their physical and mental wellbeing.

A young carer is someone who provides care and/or support to a family member, including siblings, or a friend, who could not manage without their help. This could be due to illness, disability or age, and caring can involve physical and/or emotional support. Find out more about caring here.

We support young carers aged 5 to 17 years. We also have a Young Adult Carers (YACs) service for carers aged 16 to 25 years.

We provide young carers with support and fun activities to get involved with including:

  • Information and signposting
  • Supporting young carers to access services and activities
  • Holiday activities
  • Young Carers Club for those aged 5 and upwards (starting in April 2021)
  • Teen Talk Counselling for those aged 12 years and above

Young carers assessments

Although we do not undertake statutory young carers assessments, these are provided by Imago East Sussex Young Carers, and they provide other services to young carers in East Sussex.

Support for professionals

We can also provide information and training to professionals and practitioners working with children and young people to help identify, refer and support young carers.

To find out more, or to refer a young carer, please contact our team by emailing info@cftc.org.uk or calling 07874 853703.

Thank you to BBC Children in Need, The Masonic Charitable Foundation, National Lottery Awards for All and UK Youth for their funding and support.
