National Citizen Service volunteers raise funds for young adult carers across East Sussex.

Twelve local teenagers participating in the National Citizen Service (NCS) have raised funds to help support young adult carers across East Sussex.

The group of 15-16 year olds, Team Innovation, organised a series of fundraising activities in

Eastbourne and presented Care for the Carers with a cheque for £270 at the NCS graduation, which took place at the Kings Centre on Thursday, 7th September.

The money will towards the charity’s young adult carers’ programme, and the team chose to raise money on behalf of the charity because some of them have had experience of caring themselves.

Rachel Marley, 16, said: “Our NCS team decided to raise money and awareness for Care for the Carers as some people in our team had first-hand experience of caring for a loved one as a young person and we decided we would like to help others in this situation.

“I really enjoyed this experience as I got to meet lots of new people while supporting and promoting a good cause.”

The fundraising activities organised by Team Innovation included hosting a night of live music on Eastbourne Pier and a coffee morning at the Community Wise Centre in Ocklenge Road.

Care for the Carers Team Leader Rachel Hesterbanks said: “It’s absolutely fantastic that these young people have chosen to support our young adult carers, and that with their enthusiasm and dedication they have raised this money for the charity.

“Care for the Carers provides an opportunity for young adult carers to be kids, have a break and have some fun. The money raised by NCS Team Innovation will make a huge difference to the young adult carers we work with and will help fund activities like going to Thorpe Park and Go Karting.”

Care for the Carers is an independent charity supporting unpaid carers across the county by providing free practical and emotional advice and support, as well as a range of services and activities.
