Free Photography Course for Carers

by | May 21, 2020 | Carer Learning

We’re inviting carers to take part in our exciting Photographer in Residence project. You will be able to explore your caring role and share your experiences of caring through a camera lens. Photography is a powerful and creative medium that can convey caring experiences and the day-to-day life of caring for someone.

The course includes three sessions, is free and offers the opportunity to learn about photography and build photography skills, working with local photographer John Cole.

The workshops could help you prepare a submission to the National Portrait Gallery’s project called Hold Still. Spearheaded by The Duchess of Cambridge, Patron of the National Portrait Gallery, Hold Still, a portrait of our nation in 2020, is a community project to create a unique photographic portrait which captures the spirit, mood, hopes, fears and feelings of the nation as we continue to deal with the Coronavirus outbreak. Further details of this project can be found here.

Photographs taken by carers will also be featured in two exhibitions in the two largest hospitals in East Sussex, The Conquest, Hastings and District General Hospital, Eastbourne in spring/summer 2021.

The project will amplify the voice of local carers, sharing their caring role with the public while having the chance to meet new people and try something new.

We are working with arts, education and events organisation, 18 Hours, to run the course who have a strong understanding of caring.
