Carers celebrate across East Sussex this Carers Rights Day
East Sussex was abuzz with activity on Friday 30 November, this year’s Carers Rights Day 2018.
We’ve gathered together some of the highlights of the day below.
Thank you to every one of you who took part in Carers Rights Day 2018, whether it be attending an event, sharing a photo, printing a poster, giving a donation, liking a social media post – it all helps spread the word about the need to support and inform unpaid carers across East Sussex about the rights they are entitled to.
So, from Care for the Carers, the Carers Centre for East Sussex here’s a great big THANKYOU!
Here’s a little taste of what everyone got up to…
Amy and Cally from Care for the Carers decorated our very own Christmas tree at Eastbourne Christmas Market – pop along before the end of December to read the poems that adorn the tree.

‘Super-selfie’ for ,CarersRightsDay (actual selfie not possible – no one had long enough arms)! Every day, 6000 people become carers for someone who couldn’t manage without them. We’re a carer-friendly employer with lots of support in place for colleagues who are also carers ?? pic.twitter.com/q9y63qw1eI

Heringtons tea parties in aid of young adult carers
Heringtons Solicitors, which supports Care for the Carers as its Charity of the Year, held a tea break at each of its five branches across the county. Funds raised went towards 30 Christmas goody bags for young adult carers in East Sussex. What a lovely idea!
Goody bags for young adult carers are full to the brim below, plus carers in Hastings enjoy an Italian meal with the Mayor of Hastings, Nigel Sinden. Rachel and Rob, Carer Support Workers, held a Facebook Q&A on Carers Rights Day. And a youngster in Hastings enjoys a treat at a Heringtons tea party. We were also joined by Sainsbury’s in The Beacon shopping centre in Eastbourne:

Campaigning for a better deal
Carers took part in a campaigning workshop earlier in the week, facilitated by Ramzi from Carers Trust, of which we are a network partner. Here’s the group saluting Carers Rights Day!

A local funeral directors firm has been getting behind carers rights from each of its local branches:
