Carers UK has released its ‘State of Caring report 2019’, based on a survey of more than 7,500 unpaid carers.

The report from the national charity, Carers UK, shows that the financial pressure of caring means that more than half of all carers are unable to save for retirement.

More than two thirds of carers are also using their own income or savings to cover the cost of care, equipment or products for the person they care for.

Helen Walker, Chief Executive of Carers UK, said “As it stands, providing unpaid care is pushing thousands of families into poverty and is having a lasting impact on their finances and quality of life…”

39% are also in paid work and the majority provide well over 50 hours of care every week.

You can read more about the Carers UK report on its website.

If you need support with finance or any other issues affecting you as carer, take a look at the advice available on our website, such as the advice for working carers from CareLine magazine, or our article about getting carers connected that contains lots of links to help available online
