Celebrate Carers Week with an 80s party!

by | May 24, 2019 | Carer News

For Carers Week 2019 we’re asking people to celebrate our 30th Anniversary by holding 80s parties – the decade Care for the Carers was born!

Watch Carole Gregory, our Development Officer, explain how you can get your workplace or community group celebrating 80s style, and help carers in your area, too:

Fundraising Manager, Amy Hope, spoke to our Development Officer, Carole Gregory, about her plans to hold 80s parties with our Carers Groups as a way to mark our 30th anniversary and do something special for carers during Carers Week 2019. You can still hold an 80s party once Carers Week is over too.

Why are you holding 80s parties with the carers groups?

There are lots of reasons why we wanted to hold 80s parties with our carers. It’s about celebrating carers as well as raising awareness. It brings an element of fun, helping them to reminisce and share memories, and by encouraging carers to have fun it is beneficial to their wellbeing.

What will you be doing at the carers groups?

We’ve discussed it with carers and we’re going to hold afternoon teas with 80s treats, a quiz, fancy dress and also asking carers to bring along and share 80s photos.

How can people turn 80s parties into fundraisers for Care for the Carers?

There are many things they can do! They could take a collection using our cardboard collection boxes, they could run competitions for best dressed or 80s Name that Tune (available from us – just drop us a line if you want to borrow it), hold an 80s themed raffle, quiz or bake sale. Whatever you want, really! We have lots of resources and suggestions to help.

Finally, some questions for you on your favourite 80s memories:

  • Favourite TV programme: Only Fools and Horses
  • Favourite music: I loved a bit of Lionel Ritchie!
  • Favourite Film: Dirty Dancing, still a classic!

Thank you Carole, good luck with your 80s tea parties, I hope you will have lots of photos to share with us!
