Latest News Superstar local legal secretary will conquer the London Marathon for carers Meet legal secretary, Caroline Foord, from Hastings, East Sussex, who is taking on the London Marathon 2019 to help unpaid carers. Caroline Foord of Heringtons Solicitors has begun putting her training regime into action, as she prepares to take on the immense challenge of The London Marathon 2019 - all in aid of Care for the Carers. All hail Caroline! We'll be charting Caroline's journey in the run up to the big day, and spurring her on towards her goal, so we thought we'd introduce her and find out why Care for the Carers is her chosen charity. Why have you chosen to run for Care for the Carers? I had not heard of Care for the Carers until Heringtons, my employer, started working with the charity earlier this year. Care for the Carers came to our Hastings office to introduce themselves to us, and it was from that meeting that I learned about the invaluable work they do with unpaid carers across East Sussex. The personal stories of some of the carers were truly moving and prompted me to want to help the charity. Is this your first major sporting challenge or are you a seasoned fundraiser? The London Marathon 2019 will be my first major sporting fundraising challenge and my first full length marathon. I have previously completed the Hastings Half Marathon in 2018 and 2017 and intend to take part in it again in March 2019 as part of my training for the London Marathon. I ran the half marathons as a personal challenge and didn't fundraise for these. Who will be cheering you on from the sidelines (aside from us at Care for the Carers!)? I hope to have my husband and two children, Jovie 8 and Logan 5, cheering me on from the side lines. Some of my colleagues from Heringtons are also hoping to come to London to support me, together with some of my friends from circuits and run club, Adam Shaw Personal Training. What music or podcasts do you listen to, or plan to listen to, as part of your training routine? I am currently listening to Joe Rogan’s podcasts and am planning on listening to more of a variety of podcasts on training runs, particularly when my mileage increases, as they make the time fly by! Are there any local practice run areas you recommend as being particularly beautiful? I often run on road, but enjoy running over the Fire Hills at Fairlight – the scenery is beautiful up there and gets you away from the traffic. I also have Alexandra Park in Hastings nearby so make the most of having that so close to hand. What does your training programme entail? I have started increasing the frequency of my short runs so I build up strength in my legs before increasing my mileage. My marathon training will entail 3 to 4 runs per week, increasing in distance week on week. I will also do circuits and a self defence class each week, which help with core and leg strength. What do you think will spur you on as you get to the last leg of the marathon? As I near the end of the marathon I imagine I will be thinking about the amazing people who have supported and sponsored me and Care for the Carers, and I won’t want to let them down. It will also be such a huge personal achievement to cross the line. Can you sponsor Caroline? Look out for updates from Caroline in the coming months as she progresses her training regime. Staff from Care for the Carers will also be joining her on a training run - you can join us too! Let us know if you want to get involved with fundraising for Care for the Carers.
