Events for carers of young people with learning disabilities

East Sussex Parent and Carers’ Council (ESPaCC) is hosting some events for parents and carers of children and young people with learning disabilities.

Primary care and learning disability Health Event:

28 February, Kings Centre, Eastbourne

Do you know what help you’re entitled to from your GP if looking after a young person with learning disabilities?

Do you know what happens when that young person leaves education?

At this event find out what support is available as young people transition into adulthood.Refreshments and a light lunch will be provided.

Education, Health and Care Plan roadshow:1 March, The Hive,Seaford

Liam Ryan from Amaze will help you understand how to get the best from your Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP), how it works, and provide lots of tips to help you get the rightEHCPfor your child.

Decision Making, Mental Capacity, Powers of Attorney:7 March Kings Centre, Eastbourne

If you are a parent or carer of a child or young person who may not be able to make decisions about their welfare and finances now or in the future, you will need to consider the best ways to protect them as they move to adulthood. Philip Warford, Lawyer and specialist in planning for the future of disabledand vulnerable people, will talk through who can make decisions on behalf of another person, the key principles of the Mental Capacity Act 2005, Powers of Attorney and how the Court of Protection might help.
